Wellness
We
have all heard the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound
of cure.” Nowhere is this
more true than in the prevention of disease through vaccinations.
Most of the diseases the we vaccinate against are both highly
contagious and potentially fatal. Therefore,
ALL pets, regardless of age and/or environment, need their vaccinations.
We
require the following vaccines for all hospitalized and boarded
pets. All dogs are required
to be current on Leptospirosis,
Distemper / Parvo Combo, Rabies, and Bordetella. All cats are
required to be current on Rhinotracheitis, Calici, Chlamydia, (all given
in one injection), rabies & feline leukemia. These vaccines are also
required for grooming, for both dogs and cats.
All dogs and cats checking in for hospitalization, boarding, or
grooming must also have been tested for internal parasites (worms)
within the last 12 months, prior to check-in.
If your cat has never been tested, or vaccinated for Feline
Leukemia, this test will also be required.
Canine:
Required vaccines/tests for boarding,
grooming or hospitalization:
1. Bordetella (Every 6 Months)
2. Lepto-booster required (Within the last
12 months)
3. Worm check (Within the last 12 months)
Required vaccines in the last 3 years:
1. Rabies
2. Distemper/ Parvo Combination
Feline:

1. Feluk-booster
required
2. Worm check
3. Rabies
Required vaccines in last 3 years:
Feline Distemper/Rhinotracheitis
Feline Leukemia Test required once in a lifetime
if current on leukemia vaccine

Neutering
& Spaying:
If
you choose not to breed your pet, spaying or neutering is highly
recommended. Spaying and
neutering not only prevents unwanted puppies and kittens, it also
prevents diseases associated with the reproductive organs. We suggest spaying or neutering your pet prior to sexual
maturity, which is approximately four to six months of age.

Out-Patient
Care:
Office
visits may be made by appointment to have your pet seen by any of our
veterinarians. An office visit may
include a wellness examination, or an involved medical case. For your
convenience, early morning drop-offs are welcome, with an evening pick
up. We do ask for your
cooperation in scheduling all appointments prior to arrival at our
hospital.
--------------------------------------------
In-Patient
Care:
Surgery is performed in our facility
Monday through Friday.
Each patient’s needs are evaluated prior to surgery, and
appropriate medical care is given to ensure a safe and uneventful
surgical procedure.
--------------------------------------------
Dental
Cleaning:
Another
surgical option for your pet is dental cleaning.
In the veterinary community, we are more aware than ever of the
need for good dental care for pets.
Poor dental hygiene can cause diseases that can effect
internal organs.
--------------------------------------------
Senior Wellness Program:
Any
pet over seven years old is considered geriatric.
Older pets are at risk of developing diseases that younger pets
are not. A yearly screening
for these diseases is highly recommended and includes:
CBC (complete blood count) and chemistry profile (blood tests),
chest x-rays, and physical exam. Diagnosis
and treatment for diseases early can often make the difference between a
healthy pet for years to come, and a pet that becomes ill or becomes
deceased.

Referrals:
There
are always problems that arise that need extra special attention.
We at Sheabel Animal Medical Center feel a responsibility to our
patients to provide them with the best possible medical care, and
sometimes that means referral of a patient to a board certified
specialist. We have the
capability to refer your pet to a number of specialists to deal with
your pet’s special case.
